On the 2nd of December 2020, FEDIL, the multisectoral business federation of Luxembourg, awarded B Medical Systems the 2020 Innovation Prize. The award was given for the development of the new vaccine cold chain products using innovative technology to safeguard the vaccine refrigerators from power outages and voltage spikes.

B Medical Systems has won the 2020 Innovation Award of the FEDIL business federation in the ‘Product’ category. The FEDIL Innovation Prize is traditionally organized every two years alternating with the Environment Prize and since 1982, has honoured the efforts of Luxembourg companies in the area of innovation and research.

Storing vaccines in low- and middle-income countries can be a challenge as they often lack access to the reliable and stable electricity sources normally required to ensure that the life-saving vaccines are maintained at the right temperature in refrigerators and freezers. Lack of stable electricity also means that there are voltage spikes that can result in a damaged refrigerator which in turn exposes the vaccines to temperature excursions resulting in vaccines in losing their potency. Although readily available voltage stabilizers would seem to provide an adequate solution, they often have a very short lifetime, exposing the vaccine refrigerator to potential damage again. To solve this issue, B Medical Systems developed augmented its TCW R40 AC and TCW80 AC models with an innovative technology that integrates alternative current/direct current power supply and protection set, rather than with stabilizers.

The 24th edition of the FEDIL innovation award took place in the presence of the Ministry of Economy Mr. Franz Fayot, FEDIL President Ms. Michèle Detaille and the winners.
