In March 2018, more than 4,000 frozen eggs and embryos were accidentally partially thawed at an Ohio-based hospital fertility clinic, caused by an unexpected temperature fluctuation in the tissue bank. Even though the eggs and embryos were moved to a different cryotank, the incident has left over 950 patients wondering whether their frozen samples were still viable and suitable for in vitro fertilization.
This is just one of the many incidents that happen around the world placing thousands of specimens under threat. Freezers, especially the ultra-low freezers that store specimens, human cells, tissues, and other laboratory samples are important equipment of any laboratory. Their reliability is extremely critical to the safe storage of samples, as any breakdown can result in the catastrophic loss of potentially irreplaceable samples.
B Medical Systems’ Ultra-Low Freezers are designed with state-of-the-art reliability features in order to provide maximum safety for the long-term storage of specimens.
