Today, we are going to Chaudhary Charan Singh National Institute of Animal Health (CCS NIAH) located in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, India. The CCS NIAH is a sub-ordinate office under the directorate of Animal Husbandry (The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying) which is part of the Government of India. The National Institute is responsible for the quality control of the vaccines being produced in the country and to cater to the needs of stakeholders in the livestock health sector by ensuring the availability of effective and safe veterinary biologicals. Its objective is to ensure the highest level of standards of veterinary biologicals produced or used in the country. – B Medical Systems team had a short conversation with Dr. Nihar Nalini Mohanty, Assistant Director of the Institute regarding their experience with our product.

1. Could you explain what your activities consists of?

CCS NIAH has a committed group of scientists that endeavors to provide the best services to the stakeholders for quality control testing of veterinary biologicals, following testing protocols as per Indian Pharmacopoeia 2018 and The Drugs & Cosmetic Act 1940. We perform routine testing activities to access various veterinary vaccines produced by manufacturers. Before the launch of a vaccine for veterinary purposes, we provide test reports about the effectiveness of the vaccine and if the vaccine produced by the manufacturer is up to the standard laid down by authorities or not.

2. Why is there a need for cold storage in your organization?

To perform our routine lab testing activities, biosamples are stored and preserved at intended low temperatures with the help of proper cold chain solutions. This helps in maintaining the sample integrity for further processing and producing quality results. We are guided by strict protocols and SOP laid down by authorities. Any deviation from them is just not acceptable. Therefore, maintaining reliable and efficient cold chain storage becomes even more crucial for us.

3. Which products did you buy from B Medical Systems? For which purpose?

We have bought an ultra-low freezer, U401, for the purpose of storing viruses in our Containment Laboratory, used for testing new veterinary vaccines’ efficacy.

4. What are the features that you liked the most? Could you please talk about the performance of the devices?

The product is very efficient and has outstanding performance as of date. Mostly I appreciate the accuracy of the remote temperature monitoring device (RTMD) and the convenient display of multiple critical data points, making our audit process smoother. This feature enable us to keep track of the temperature and monitor it closely even when we are not on site. Another beautiful feature is the gasket heater, it prevents gasket frosting which helps in proper door locking, maintains inside temperature and decreases the wear and tear of the gasket in the longer run. The overall user interface of the product is very convenient too which makes our day-to-day functioning smooth and easy.

5. How are you using the B Medical Systems’ product and how does it benefit your institution?

We are using B Medical Systems product, U401 to store temperature-sensitive bio samples that require low temperatures to maintain their quality for further testing and processing. Apart from storing and persevering bio samples, there are other additional features mentioned above making it user-friendly and convenient to use for our day-today lab activities.

We are using B Medical Systems product, U401 to store temperature-sensitive bio samples that require low temperatures to maintain their quality for further testing and processing. Apart from storing and persevering bio samples, there are other additional features mentioned above making it user-friendly and convenient to use for our day-today lab activities.

It has been almost a year that we are using B Medical Systems’ products.

Yes, we are quite satisfied with the product performance and looking forward to buying more Ultra Low freezers with larger capacities.
