In the wake of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Sulawesi island, B Medical Systems and its Indonesian partner donated a significant variety of medical devices to health organizations in Palu. Through this kind gesture of sympathy, we enable access to safe blood, vaccines, and medication to the families in need.
End of September 2018, a 7.7-magnitude quake, and a subsequent 5-meter high tsunami swallowed up the Sulawesi island in Indonesia. The capital of Palu and its neighborhood sustained heavy damage. Reports outline 45 healthcare facilities affected, a death tool above 2,000 and more than 14,000 injured. According to the WHO, the movement of people and poor living conditions coupled with the damages caused represent a high risk of communicable diseases, such as varicella, malaria, tuberculosis, and dengue.
In order to help health workers deliver life-saving medical services in the affected areas, B Medical Systems donated a total of 19 medical devices to health centers and the Indonesian Red Cross. Our local partner PT EMS Indoappliances delivered and installed the products. They also offered training to the medical staff on the ground.
The donation units include medical refrigerators, freezers and carriers. Designed for the safe storage and transport of temperature-sensitive materials, they keep laboratory products, plasma and other blood components at stable temperatures. All devices are PQS-certified by the WHO. They also come with a temperature monitoring device. The solution enables health staff to know whether the vaccines they administer to children are safe and remained efficient.
Health facilities also received high-end Solar Direct Drive refrigerators. These solar-powered devices have an autonomy of more than 3 days and a large net storage capacity of 156L. They were handed over together with solar panels. At a time when electricity supply is not reliable in the region, the devices will come in handy.
