Through these short conversations, we try to understand what our customers think about us. Today, we are travelling to Nigeria to speak to Madame Modupe Kolapal, Cold Chain and Logistics Officer for the National Primary Health Care Development Agency – Southwest region. The organization is using our GT Mini remote temperature monitoring device to monitor the potency of their vaccines.
The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) is Nigeria’s domestic health development agency. Its missions include providing support and mobilizing resources nationally and internationally for the development of Primary Health Care and providing support for the monitoring and evaluation of the National Health Policy.
- Could you introduce yourself and your company? Can you please explain your day-to-day routine?
My name is Modupe Kolapal, I’m the Cold Chain and Logistics Officer for the Southwest Zone of the NPHCDA in Nigeria. I’m responsible for the cold chain equipment and the logistics regarding vaccines in different zones in the country.
- Why is there a need for remote monitoring devices in your organization?
We need to know what happens to our vaccines when we are not there. We need to have continuous readings of the vaccines’ temperature storage to make sure that they maintain their full potency. We are storing millions of vaccines doses – EPI vaccines as well as COVID-19 vaccines – and we do this at a national level. We then supply the different states based on their needs.
- Which products did you buy from B Medical Systems? For which purpose?
We bought the GT Mini, the remote temperature monitoring device, to be used for our cold rooms. We have placed the TempSense (sensor) inside the cold room and we have fixed the screen outside.
- Before using the GT Mini, how were you monitoring your temperatures?
We were using a simple logger that we placed inside the cold chain equipment.
- What are the features that you like the most about the product? Could you please talk about the performance of the devices?
I really appreciate the fact that a USB is not required to download the data from the device. The GT Mini allows us to track and read the ambient temperature as well, while our previous solution did not have this feature. The battery of the GT Mini lasts longer than our previous equipment and the temperature readings are more accurate. The temperature display is easily readable, and we don’t need to open the cold room to see the data.
- Which temperature ranges do you measure?
We are using GT Mini to measure the temperature range of 2°C to 8°C.
- How frequently do you use the data export function?
On a monthly basis.
- What do you think of the ink display?
Quite legible.
- What do you think of the mobile app?
It’s great, everyone in my office can check the temperature on their own phone.
10. How are you using the B Medical Systems product and how does it benefit your institution?
The GT Mini will last longer than other devices so this will reduce our costs.
11. How is it different from other data loggers?
With the GT Mini, we can take the readings without having to open the refrigerators. We can also track the ambient temperature and the battery lasts longer.
- How did you learn about B Medical Systems?
We have known B Medical Systems since I have been working here. Most of our equipment are from B Medical Systems: we have some transport boxes, vaccines refrigerators and freezers too.
- How long have you been a B Medical Systems real-time monitoring solutions customer?
We have been using B Medical Systems medical cold chain for over 5 years (since 2018) and we have been using the GT Mini for several months (since beginning of 2023).
- What would you tell a customer that is envisaging buying the GT Mini?
It’s not a bad decision.
