The Indian Red Cross Society is a hundred-year-old voluntary humanitarian organization which has a network of over 1100 branches throughout India, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promoting the health and care of vulnerable people and communities. It is a leading member of the largest independent humanitarian organization in the world, the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement. Its mission is to alleviate human suffering, protect life and health, and uphold human dignity, especially during armed conflicts and other emergencies. The organisation is present in every country and supported by millions of volunteers.

1. Could you explain what your activity consists of?

We are involved in humanitarian activities. The Indian Red Cross Society is one of the biggest blood banks in Karnataka. We collect more than 35000 units of blood per year with only volunteer blood donation camps across the district. We supply this blood to various hospitals and other medical organizations in need. We reach out to remote hospitals in the district for their blood requirements. As a part of our other philanthropic activities, we aid the government and other agencies in the event of any calamity such as floods, landslides etc.

2. Why is there a need for cold storage in your organization?

We primarily collect blood through blood donation camps which are organised at a district level and supply it to hospitals and other organizations in need of it. Therefore, to maintain the safety and quality of collected blood and its components while storing and transporting them, an efficient cold chain infrastructure is critical.

3. Which products did you buy from B Medical Systems? For which purpose?

We have been associated with B Medical Systems from over a decade, and we have used their equipment since they were part of Electrolux and Dometic. We are currently using a Dometic Ice-Pack Refrigerator FCW300, a Blood Bank Refrigerator B381, Medical Transport Boxes MT25, a Blood Storage Chest Refrigerator MB3000G, a Laboratory Freezer F290, a Dometic Pharmacy Refrigerator MP355S, a Laboratory Refrigerator L380, Medical transport Boxes MT100. We are using these products not just in our Bangalore branch but also in our remote branches across the state.

4. What are the features that you liked the most? Could you please talk about the performance of the devices?

We have been using the devices for a really long time now, and we like the fact that they are very reliable products and include innovative technology such as USB data export feature and more. We never have to worry about breakdowns while using these products. They are quite user friendly, and even in the remote areas our officers are using them easily.

We are using these products for the storage and transport of blood and its components. These cold chain solutions help us by keeping the samples at their intended temperatures therefore ensuring their safety and quality.
