Testimonial: Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR), Luxembourg

Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) relies on B Medical Systems P500 pharmacy refrigerator and F130 laboratory freezer to store temperature‑sensitive medications and materials. Combined with transport boxes and cooling packs, these solutions ensure safe storage and transport of critical medical products during emergency missions, including neonatal transfers and sensitive materials requiring stable cooling.

For more than three decades, Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR) has stood as a symbol of hope, expertise, and unwavering commitment responding to emergencies across Luxembourg, the Greater Region and across the world, every hour of the day, every day of the year. As a non-profit organization founded in 1988, LAR has built its reputation on world-class medical care, cutting-edge medical aviation capabilities, and a deep dedication to protecting human life. With over 3,000 missions carried out annually and its role as a certified United Nations partner for global disaster relief, LAR’s operations rely on equipment and systems that meet the highest standards of safety, precision, and reliability.

In this testimonial, we speak with Mr. Maximilian Bader, Deputy Flight Nurse  Manager, to understand how B Medical Systems’ solutions support their life-saving missions and contribute to the seamless, high-stakes reality of emergency medicine in the air.

  1. Could you please describe your role at Luxembourg Air Rescue and the key activities and responsibilities it involves?

In my role as Deputy Flight Nurse Manager, I am responsible for the medical quality and operational readiness of our Flight Nurse team. A central part of my work includes the management of all medical equipment used within our organization – from selection and standardization to maintenance and ensuring that every device is ready for use at all times.
In addition, I work as a Medical Regulator in our own operations center. This is where all flight missions are planned, medically assessed, and coordinated. I am directly involved in the medical decision making process, patient evaluations, and the organization of complex international transport missions.

  1. Which products from B Medical Systems are currently used by LAR?

We currently use a P500 Pharmacy Refrigerator and an F130 Laboratory Freezer for storing temperature sensitive medications and materials. We also rely on transport boxes, which we use in combination with cooling packs from the freezer. These mobile systems are essential for the safe transport of sensitive medical products during our missions.

  1. How do you use these products during your life-saving missions?

The refrigerator ensures the constant cooling of critical medications that we need for emergency care. Many of these drugs lose their effectiveness if temperature limits are exceeded, which makes stable cooling absolutely essential. We use the Transport boxes for incubator and neonatal transfers, for example to safely transport frozen breast milk. They are also used for the transport of specific  medical materials such as bone flaps following decompressive craniectomies, which must be kept properly cooled for extended periods of time. Quite simply: the products from B Medical Systems make a direct contribution to our ability to save lives.

  1. Which features do you value the most, and how would you describe the performance of the devices in real operational conditions?

We particularly appreciate the exceptional reliability and high quality of all devices. It is immediately clear that the products are built to a very high technical standard. For us, this means that we can rely on them 100 percent at all times – a crucial factor in aviation and emergency medicine.

The devices are also practical and easy to use, which is extremely important in time critical situations. Another aspect we value highly is the straightforward and always helpful communication with B Medical Systems: fast, direct, and solution oriented.

  1. Can you share a real-life example or mission where B Medical Systems’ equipment made a meaningful difference?

A very good example is incubator transports of premature or newborn infants.  During these missions, we often have to transport frozen breast milk, which must remain strictly temperature controlled. The large Transport box from B Medical Systems allows us to keep these sensitive materials reliably frozen for long periods, even with significant temperature fluctuations or extended waiting times.

Especially for our smallest and most vulnerable patients, this level of technical reliability makes a real difference. Without this robust cooling technology, we would not be able to carry out such missions with the same level of safety and quality.

  1. How critical is temperature-controlled equipment in the missions you operate, and what are the biggest challenges you face in maintaining cold chain integrity during air rescue operations?

Temperature control is absolutely essential during storage. Many of our medications are highly temperature sensitive and must remain within strict limits.
We do not carry an active cooling system onboard the aircraft or helicopter. This means that once medications are removed from the cold chain, their shelf life becomes limited. For example, certain medications must be used or discarded within six months after removal from refrigeration. For this reason, 24/7 monitored temperature control in our storage facilities is crucial to ensure the readiness and effectiveness of all medications we carry on our missions.

  1. How would you describe your experience working with B Medical Systems as a partner?

Our cooperation is extremely positive, reliable, and truly collaborative. Communication is fast, direct, and highly solution oriented. In a small country like Luxembourg, close cooperation with other Luxembourg based companies is especially valuable. The geographical proximity and direct exchange make everyday operations easier and significantly strengthen the partnership.
For us, B Medical Systems is a dependable partner on equal footing, one that understands our operational needs and supports us proactively.

  1. Would you recommend B Medical Systems to other emergency or rescue organizations? If so, why?

Yes, absolutely.
The devices are highly reliable, robust, and designed for professional operational environments. They give us the level of safety we need for our often time critical missions.
We can therefore recommend B Medical Systems without hesitation.
