Through these short discussions, we try to understand what our customers think about us. Today, we are going to Espoo, near Helsinki in Finland. We meet M. Pekka Nikkilä, engineer working at Medix Biochemica.

Medix Biochemica is a leading supplier of in vitro diagnostics raw materials and has offices and manufacturing facilities across the world. The company, headquartered in Finland, has a portfolio of over 5000 products including antibodies, antigens, enzymes, biospecimens and molecular diagnostic reagents.

1. Could you explain what the activities of your company consist of?

We produce and supply antibodies, antigens and other critical IVD raw materials to enable our customer to manufacture diagnostic tests and supporting materials all around the world. In Finland, we make monoclonal antibodies.

I’m an engineer at Medix Biochemica and I’m responsible for the temperature mapping for cold rooms and cold chain equipment.

2. Why is there a need for cold storage in your business?

The raw material used to produce antibodies, antigens, biospecimens, etc require cold storage. Storage temperature can be between 2°C and 8°C, below -20°C, or even ultra-cold storage temperature such as below -70°C.

3. Which products did you buy from B Medical Systems? For which purpose?

Several. We have several laboratory refrigerators from the Dometic brand. We also have laboratory refrigerators from B Medical Systems, the L380. We have Dometic freezers and B Medical Systems’ Ultra-Low Freezers (U701). We have about 4 Ultra-Low Freezers, around 10 freezers and 15 refrigerators that we use daily. For long-term storage, we use cold rooms.

4. What are the features that you liked the most? Could you please talk about the performance of the device?

The durability. We have very few breakdowns. The temperature deviation is really small, so it means that the uniformity of the temperature is really good.

5. How are you using B Medical Systems ‘products and how do they benefit your institution?

When the device is durable, it means that it can be used for 10 or more years so it saves money in the long run. We don’t need to repair it and the maintenance costs are low.

6. Have you found in B Medical Systems a trustworthy partner?

Yes

7. How did you learn about B Medical Systems?

We already had some Dometic equipment when I joined the company in 2006.

8. How long have you been a B Medical Systems customer?

At least since 2005.

Yes.
