Through these short conversations, we try to understand what our customers think of us. Today, we are going to Latvia to talk with M. Gatis Berlakovs, the Director of the technical department of the Valsts Asinsdonoru Centrs (State Blood Donor Center) in Latvia. The institution has been created in 1960 and started to welcome blood donors.

1. Could you explain what your activities consist of?

The Valsts Asinsdonoru Centrs is the State Blood Donor Center of Latvia. We are the only organization of this kind in the country. We are collecting the blood and its components from donors, processing it, testing it and then distributing to the various hospitals in the country.

I’m the Director of the technical department and we are looking after the equipment of the center. Making some repairs when needed or calling support depending on the job to be done, maintaining the units, etc.

2. Which products did you buy from B Medical Systems? For which purpose?

I think we have almost all your product lines. We have -80°C freezers, Contact Shock Freezers and some blood refrigerators (2-6°C) and medical refrigerators going from 2-8°C. Our fleet includes the following models: B501, F701, U501, MB21 and other Electrolux units.

3. Why is there a need for cold storage in your centers?

As we are a blood center, we of course need to have the right equipment to store and process the blood and its components. In addition, when Covid-19 started, we helped storing vaccines. We supported the immunization campaigns initiative by storing the vaccines at ultra-low temperature. The -80°C devices were not very popular at that time. We use the CSF to fast freeze the plasma at -35°C. We are storing the erythrocytes and medication in the refrigerators.

4. What are the features that you liked the most? Could you please talk about the performance of the devices?

It’s really good devices doing their job. We are regularly checking the performances of the units and there is nothing bad to say about it.

5. How are you using B Medical Systems’ products and how do they benefit your institution?

B Medical Systems products are beneficial to our center, they’re good products..

6. Have you found in B Medical Systems a trustworthy partner?

Yes. Service is also good, nothing to complain about

7. How did you learn about B Medical Systems?

We know your brand since you were called Electrolux.

8. How long have you been a customer of B Medical Systems?

Since around 1996, maybe even earlier. We had some Electrolux devices in the past.

9. Are you satisfied with our equipment?

Of course, yes!

10. Would you recommend B Medical Systems to your peers?

I’m already recommending it, yes.
