Fresh frozen human plasma is an important transfusion component, and also functions as a raw material for the production of coagulation factor concentrates used in patients with hemorrhagic disorders.

The freezing process is a critical step that may result in loss of coagulation activity if not handled optimally (white paper). This paper discusses the impact of various technological innovations used in our Contact Shock Freezers to enable an industry-leading cooling. This includes the inclination of the freezing plates and the linear actuators, which enable homogeneous and rapid cooling of plasma bags.

Tests demonstrated that inclining the freezing plates to an angle of 5° helps increase the plasma bag contact area without air by an average of 19%, leading to faster freezing times. It was also observed that the silent acting linear actuators deliver homogeneous freezing of the bags even when the fill volumes are slightly different.
