Established in 1871 in the city of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, B. J. Medical College is affiliated with Gujarat University. This hospital is one of the oldest, largest, and most modern hospitals of India, treating about 600,000 to 650,000 outdoor patients, and admitting 70,000 patients annually. It performs about 26,000 surgeries and 6,500 child deliveries per year. Today we had the pleasure to interact with Dr. Nidhi Bhatnagar, Professor & Head of Dept of Transfusion Medicine at the college. She is also a Lead Assessor (NABH Blood Banks), Chairperson of the ISBTI-Gujarat Chapter, and Chairperson for AATM WG Quality. She has been our esteemed customer for many years and during our conversation, we captured her experience of using our products.

1. Could you explain what your activities consists of?

The B. J. Medical College, Ahmedabad, is a leading educational institute in the field of Medicine & Health Sciences, and Nursing. It is one of the largest sources of medically qualified manpower in the country. The college is the centre for the admission of MBBS students in the entire Gujarat State. Each year, some 250 students are admitted to the college receiving the best medical training. As a tertiary care teaching hospital, we have a Blood Bank Centre with a permission to conduct out-of-station blood donation camps.

2. Why is there a need for cold storage in your organization?

As an authorized Blood Bank Centre, many times we go out of the hospital to conduct blood donation camps. Often these camps are conducted in remote places with high ambient temperatures. Therefore, we need effective cold chain solutions so that the collected blood units are stored and transported in proper conditions before they are processed into components or given to the recipient.

3. Which products did you buy from B Medical Systems? For which purpose?

We are using the MT100 and other transport boxes, to maintain a cold chain of blood products during transportation. We have our blood bank bus installed with MT100 which are used to transport blood from blood donation camps to the blood bank while maintaining its quality and safety.

4. What are the features that you liked the most? Could you please talk about the performance of the devices?

All the transport boxes especially MT100 are good quality, sturdy, and require low maintenance. We are using these products for many years now without any major complaints. The user-friendly design of the MT100 with the front door opening provides the best convenience when it comes to handling blood bags. An ideal product for our Blood Bank Bus that we use for blood collection.

We use it to maintain cold chains during transportation. It helps to maintain the quality of blood products.
